A poetic glance at the ancient art of Indian ceramics in this session of the cycle “Per amor a les arts” (For the Love of Arts)
A poetic glance at the ancient art of Indian ceramics in the third session of the “Per amor a les arts” cycle. Mati Manas is one of the most emblematic movies by the filmmaker Mani Kaul, a key member of New Indian Film. In 1985 the India Festival commissioned a movie on the art of ceramics. In response Kaul offers this combination of poetry and legends associated with the traditions of the ancient potter communities.
The screening will be introduced by Eva Blanes, secretary-general of A-FAD, a bookbinder and graphic designer. The choice of film is thus no coincidence: one of the disciplines with which the FAD’s artists’ and artisans’ association works is ceramics and the title was selected purposely for the 29th edition of Tallers Oberts BCN (Open Ateliers), the open house sessions of ateliers, studios and creation spaces due to take place in May in Barcelona and Hospitalet.
This is the sixth season of “Per amor a les arts”, a cycle organized by the Catalan Film Board in collaboration with different Catalan cultural institutions covering various fields. In the case of the topics associated with design and architecture, the selection is made by the FAD, the Design Museum and the Mies van der Rohe Foundation. Every Tuesday, from October to June, the Film Board hosts the screenings, in original version with subtitles and presented by experts in the subjects in order to encourage dialogue between the various artistic manifestations, with film as the universal language that unites them all.
